Waugh Watch: Nephrectomy + Two Days

This was another good day on the Waugh Watch.

Ernie and I arrived at the hospital just as Tim's bed (with him on it) was being wheeled out of his room to take him for his first dialysis treatment. Mercifully, neither one of us suggested that the transporters run Tim's bed into the door frame to see if he was awake...

His first dialysis treatment was uneventful and short - lasted about 1.5 hours. Tomorrow's treatment will be three hours. I'm not sure if it will be a full treatment, with full treatment meaning that all of his blood is filtered. But Monday's treatment will definitely be.

Not long after he returned from dialysis, he had his first walk of the day - twice around the triangle. Each lap is 1/18th of a mile, for those of you who are keeping score. The second walk was a little shorter because housekeeping was polishing the floors. He sat up in a chair for longer periods today.

Tim is moving fairly well on his own. If he is sitting moderately upright in the hospital bed, he can use the rails to swing himself into a sitting position on the edge of the bed. But here is vintage Tim: Right before I left the hospital this evening, he had me call the nurse to help him get back into bed. By the time she got there, Tim was already in bed (with my only assist being to move the bed covers and untwist a couple of tubes/wires).

He still has the NG tube helping drain stomach secretions. Between that and the dryness in his mouth, it's still somewhat uncomfortable for him to speak more than a couple of sentences. Hopefully the tube will come out on Saturday as planned.

Through his Treo, Tim has been reading your comments to these updates. That's probably the best way to send your best wishes at this point.

Tomorrow is my return flight to Ohio. Tim's friend Earnest from WV will be arriving tomorrow afternoon and Ernie will return early next week. Between us, we'll continue daily reports until Tim is discharged.

Keep up the great work, sweetie! Schmaltzy as it sounds, you're quite an inspiration with your silliness...errr...upbeat attitude and your stubbornness...ummm...I mean, determination! You're in my constant thoughts and prayers.

Hi Tim: I'm so greatful to your friends who are staying with you AND doing these postings so we may all keep up with you (not that any of us can)! I hope the dialysis is not too annoying for you as it will be "the rule of the day" for a while. Look forward to seeing you back on the IM, where YOU can fluster me with your krptogram style of writing. I miss both the Sir Galihads! LV

Great that you are doing so well and have such good friends to help at the hospital, at home and concerned friends around the world. Read Scotts note about BPC and agree!! YIKES is right!
Keeping track of you with the blog. Continued thanks for sharing your talents with us. Sitting in front of the Noack with you at the wheel was a very special time. Keep charging up the hill.

Hi, Tim from Charlotte mcp!

I'm overjoyed to see you are supported by great souls (send my greetings to that really nice fella, Brian Burke: I am forever indebted to him for aiding me in my car distress in Dayton)and racking up the good reports.
Hardly a day goes by that I don't pray for your recovery and well-being, and for all your needs to be met so there won't be any stressing.
Sooooo, when's the memorial service for the Twins??? I'll bring my group to play. They are all hoping you will be back in your game for the young ringers festival in raleigh.
It was such a disappointment not to make the Boar's Head Feast this year. Other life (and death)events happened to me this past month. I look forward to returning to my regularly scheduled program soon (no doubt, the same goes for you!)
All the best to you,
charlotte

It's great to be able to keep up with you through this site. We are all very happy at the successful birth of your twins--may they never visit on Father's Day--and we will continue to pray for you. We miss you and will try to keep the organ warm in your absence. Keep up the confidence and humor---Cindy and Scott
